A life-threatening condition, aneurysms develop when a blood vessel in the brain weakens and bulges or balloons with blood. Knowing that she was at risk for hereditary brain aneurysms, Jackie Horowitz turned to IGEA Brain, Spine & Orthopedics, which offers convenient locations in New Jersey and New York. Learn more about her success story and why she entrusted her care to one of our board-certified neurosurgeons and neuroendovascular specialists, Dr. Ciro Giuseppe Randazzo.
A native of Puerto Rico, Jackie has lived in the tri-state area for over two decades and enjoys a career in construction management. Sadly, both her father and aunt passed away after experiencing brain aneurysms, prompting her primary care physician to encourage Jackie to see a neurologist for an MRI. That’s when results revealed that she already had two brain aneurysms requiring prompt, expert treatment.
Jackie was referred to Dr. Randazzo at IGEA Brain, Spine & Orthopedics, and choosing to entrust her care to him and the rest of our medical team is a decision she thanks herself for making every day. “I gave myself fully to Dr. Randazzo. His bedside manner and professionalism of explaining everything to me and giving me the choices of what I can do – that is something I will never, ever forget,” she says.
Due to the complexity of her condition, two separate types of brain surgery were necessary to resolve Jackie’s aneurysms. “The first time going into surgery – the idea of somebody opening up your head is hard,” Jackie says, “but I trusted Dr. Randazzo, and I came out of that surgery intact.”
The other aneurysm was treated via a minimally invasive endovascular approach in which a stent and coils were used to treat the aneurysm from within. “For such a delicate surgery with so many potential complications, Dr. Randazzo did a beautiful job, and I never had anything else happen to me,” adds Jackie. “My yearly MRI shows that everything is in place, and there are no more aneurysms.”
When she was first diagnosed with aneurysms, Jackie’s neurologist told her that if she wanted the best neurovascular surgeon, she should turn to Dr. Randazzo.
Married to a cardiologist, Jackie knew the importance of fully vetting Dr. Randazzo’s experience before choosing IGEA Brain, Spine & Orthopedics for her aneurysm treatment. “My advice for anybody going through an aneurysm diagnosis is to look at their qualifications and where they’ve practiced – these things make a huge difference,” says Jackie.
Knowing that Dr. Randazzo’s resume includes Johns Hopkins University, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New Jersey Medical and Neurosurgical Societies, and Thomas Jefferson University, Jackie knew she could fully place her trust in his knowledge. “I was very confident from the get-go, and his bedside manner is second to none,” adds Jackie. “His staff is fantastic as well. They are always there for me, which I truly appreciate.”
If you or a loved one is facing an aneurysm diagnosis, Dr. Randazzo at IGEA Brain, Spine & Orthopedics is standing by to assist. “He’s not a cookie-cutter kind of doctor – he’s the real deal,” Jackie says. “There’s nothing like having a good doctor. I recommend him wholeheartedly for any situation.”
