IGEA ADOPTS A FAMILY FOR THE HOLIDAYS

‘Tis the season for giving and giving back, especially to those who have suffered a brain injury.

Depending on the type and severity, a brain injury can affect a person’s overall brain function, quality of life and ability to live independently. No person or family is ever prepared to comprehend the full magnitude of life changes a brain injury can present.

At IGEA Brain & Spine, we want to do everything we can in the spirit of the season to help those who need it most. That’s why we are teaming up with The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey (BIANJ).

BIANJ is dedicated to improving quality of life after brain injuries. They even organize an annual holiday gift-giving drive to benefit the children and families affected. Anyone is welcome to support the organization by donating directly or adopting a family.

This year, IGEA Brain & Spine has chosen to adopt a family to help ensure that every child has a gift to open this holiday season and every family gets a merry holiday.

It’s almost unimaginable how much of an impact brain injuries can cause. These families are affected in a multitude of ways. Consider the single parent who suffers a traumatic brain injury, unable to work. What becomes of the children? Who cares for them? Provides for them? Keeps them safe? What about the child who has limited brain function and requires constant care? Is there enough money for the medical attention required? Enough patience and attention to go around for siblings?

Situations like these are all too realistic in the BIANJ community. Who can focus on the holidays with so many pressing issues to consider? Giving back—even just a small amount—could help a family who has been through so much hardship finally enjoy the holly, jolly festivities without the worry of their everyday challenges.

That’s the IGEA mission this season, and it can be yours, too. Tuesday, November 29, is Giving Tuesday; a day to acknowledge and aid those who may not have all the luxuries of a holiday season. Not just material luxuries, but quality of life luxuries—things so many of us can take for granted.

If you are interested in helping a family affected by a brain injury, please consider joining our holiday efforts by donating or adopting a family today. Make someone’s holiday season shine a little brighter. Make a child smile a little wider. Make a difference.
