World and European medals for middle and long-distance running have draped from Emelia Gorecka’s neck since 2010, yet the 20-year-old’s sprint to success has not been an easy one. Dangerous Curves Ahead
The symptoms of scoliosis generally become apparent at the age of 10 but can sometimes begin at the start of puberty or during periods of growth in teenage years. The signs of scoliosis usually include back muscle aches, irregular fitting of clothes and uneven shoulders.

Fixed rods forced the procedure to be repeated every two years as the child grew and longer rods became necessary, but now the extendable rods allow surgeons to extend them via remote control.
